Mothers: The Next Generation

Last year around Mother's Day I wrote a post celebrating mothers --  my grandmothers, mother, and mother-in-law.  This year I wanted to celebrate the amazing young mothers in our family.

The first is our daughter, who will be celebrating her tenth Mother's Day this year.  She is a tenured faculty member at a prestigious university, with all the responsibilities that role entails, and she is a wonderful mother to our granddaughter (age 10) and grandson (age 7).
The other young mother in our family is our daughter-in-law who will be celebrating her very first Mother's Day, as she gave birth to our newest grandchild last November.  She has a master's degree and works as a research analyst for a major corporation.
Both of these young mothers are doing a wonderful job balancing professional lives and motherhood -- although both will tell you that a nice nap is close to the top of their wishlists!  It is a joy to see them bringing up another generation of smart, polite, and well-behaved children!  Happy Mother's Day, you two!

  4. I agree with Debbie, Tricia! Your grandchildren are beautiful!! I am so impressed with what young mothers manage to get done these days. I simply do not know how they have the energy. Of course, I know that staying home with young children 24/7 is the most tiring (but rewarding - sometimes - lol!!) job in the world. Happy Mother's Day to all three of you!!

  5. Such a beautiful family, Tricia. That smile on your newest grandson is just adorable! Your daughter doesn't look old enough to have a 10 yr old. Of course, you don't look old enough to have grandchildren. laurie

  7. Hello! I followed Michele's link to find you and chuckled at your blog title and about me info. It does seem that dull and dutiful does not get the praise it should! I have a note inside my medicine cabinet that says, "I love a rut!" I've learned from experience that a nice dull life suits me just fine.

I came because Michele says your table settings are lovely and I see Laurie above so I'm sure they are. I will look at them more but I do like that you introduced your daughter and daughter-in-law and wrote of the good job they do as mothers leading a very busy life. This was one of my daughters-in-law's first year as a mother and she amazes me with the terrific job she is doing in this first year of mothering.

  9. My, such lovely families! Wishing you all a belated mother’s day! Being a mother is the hardest yet fulfilling role in life. You must be able to perform almost everything round the clock. Whew! And it’s true, most mothers wish for more time to rest, sleep and rejuvenate. But kudos to all mothers! You truly are the best creation of God.
