Bring on the Daffodils!

Who's tired of wintry weather? Hands? I thought so. We Central Texans have had to wear COATS lately.  Yes, they are Texas coats that wouldn't protect us from, say, a Chicago winter, but most years, we only have to pull them out a few times.  This year, they're getting a workout.

While at Home Depot over the weekend, I spotted these miniature daffodils in pots and couldn't resist the hint of spring they offered.  Of course, I had to set a table to show them off.

Yellow and green was the obvious color scheme, so I pulled out green placemats and linen-look napkins with a green blanket-stitched edging, then added a green and yellow salad plate (Williams-Sonoma, two years ago) and a yellow appetizer plate that was a gift from my daughter.  A green water glass and our wedding silver complete the placesetting.

The daffodils were soaking up the late afternoon sun in the dining room after several overcast days.

Love this golden light!

When daffodils appear, can spring be far behind?  Come on, Mother Nature!

Thank you for visiting The Dull and the Dutiful this week!  I will be linking to Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.

  1. Hi Trish,

Your table is a wonderful preview of spring! It's a cheerful sight to me, as the weather has been really dreary here in N.C. since yesterday.

This makes me want to pay a visit to Home Depot and look for some of those mini daffodils. :) Your place settings are really pretty; I love the green and yellow salad plates. My very favorite thing is the gorgeous rays of sunlight that you captured in your pictures -- yep, they do make us long for spring.

Thanks for sharing Trish; I hope you have a great day!

    Hugs,

    Denise

  2. That is a gorgeous table; what a cheery combination of colors and flowers! The dish combination is wonderful, but I really love the napkins almost as much as the daffodils.

  4. Tricia, THANK YOU for the glimpse of Springtime! I saw some daffodils in the grocery store the other day and hesitated... but we're headed out of town and it just didn't make sense to buy them. I'm glad you did -- and shared them with me! That golden light pic is especially gorgeous. :-)

  5. So, so pretty! I passed up some yellow and green floral dishes at a thrift store last weekend, now I'm kicking myself after seeing how beautifully you created this table with the daffodils. Stay warm Tricia! -Dawn @ We Call It Junkin. com

  6. I just checked the weather in Houston, and it's 33 but feels like 23 which must be why the house feels colder than usual this morning. Seeing how your daffodils warm your table makes me think I better find some today. Your table gets us ready for spring.

  7. Tricia, those yellow flowers are spectacular and just the touch of sun I needed. My sister and her family have been having fun sending pictures of the snow they got in San Antonio this morning. I am not so excited because in Utah we have snow slated for all week! I need to go and buy some daffodils so I don't get depressed!

  8. I'm ready for Spring too...I purchased hyacinth bulbs a few weeks ago too because I'm tired of being cold! They're blooming now and it at least makes me think Spring is nearby! I live in Houston and we too have had unseasonably cold weather...in fact the city has been shut down twice! We just don't have the equipment and "know how" that our dear friends up north so effectively use to deal with each winter!
On to your table...I love all the warm colors. Of course, your flowers set a wonderful stage for the lovely dishes and stemware. Try to stay warm, I'm sure Spring is on its way!

  9. Hello! I popped over from BNOTP and love your fresh tablesetting. Just yesterday I was shopping for spring decor thinking I would use yellow and green! My newly potted daffodils, pansies and primroses had to come inside the house this week as we are not getting above freezing. I am loving a bit of spring inside the house instead!

  12. Hi
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Daffodils are just the thing to get you in the mood for spring. We have had a cold winter here in NC too , but I have some that are budding in the garden already. Your table looks so lovely with the sun shining on it the way it does. And daffodils are the perfect flower to chase away the winter cold!

  13. Your table gives me hope that Spring might come after all. This has been a long Winter, hasn't it? I need to go see if we have any of those daffodils at our neighborhood HD. Thanks for the spirit brightener!

  14. Yes, yes, yes! So fresh and vibrant and pretty! Just what we need to wake us up from this proverbial long winter's nap! This is beautiful, Tricia! One of your prettiest ever, I think. It just has a ton of personality and an almost innocence to it. Beautiful!

Try to stay warm! I know this winter has been brutal for so many, us Missourians included. Let's hope we have a more merciful Spring and Summer!
