Father's Day

We celebrated Father's Day a week early with my father-in-law, because we'll be with our son and daughter-in-law on the actual day. I bought these placemats and the matching napkins at Williams-Sonoma last year, but hadn't used them before.  The pattern reminds me of one of my husband's favorite shirts, so I thought they would work well for a Father's Day table.

The placesetting also includes our everyday dishes, glasses, and stainless, as well as a steak knife -- because you can't celebrate men in Texas without serving steak!
For a simple centerpiece that echoed the colors of the placemats, I used yellow spider mums in cobalt blue glass bottles.  Spider mums give a lot of bang for the buck!
Here's a look at the whole table. Notice anything wrong?  I didn't -- and took a series of photos this way.  See those napkins piled neatly to one side?  Sigh.
Here's the table with the napkins in place.
And here's one last look at the spider mums.
Happy Father's Day!  Thank you for visiting, and I hope you'll leave a comment before you leave to visit more tablescapes at Between Naps on the Porch.  Tablescape Thursday is not to be missed!

  1. I know we all say "love this table" but I really do. Yellow is my favorite color and the blue is a perfect accent.
I did a whole tablescape once photographed and posted before I realized that I forgot the cutlery. Napkins we can do without but eating with our fingers...not so much.

  2. Hi Tricia,

I've been mulling over what to use for a Father's Day tablescape myself, and this one is great!! Those placemats and napkins really do remind me of a man's shirt; my husband has a similar one and so does our son. The colors are wonderful and very nice for summer. I really like your everyday dishes, and the blue bottles with the spider mums is an inspired idea! I have some bottles like that, but I don't think I have two the same color.

This is a perfect Father's Day table; pretty, but not too fussy. Thanks for sharing, and Happy Father's Day to the men in your family!

    Hugs,

    Denise

  5. Hi Tricia~ I love your blue & yellow table with placemats reminiscent of your hubby's shirt! Your spider mums in the blue vases are perfect for table! I had to chuckle with the napkins off to the side...that is SO something I would do, but they would NOT be so neatly folded :-)

  7. Tricia, I have MIA lately. I hope I haven't missed many of your beautiful tablescapes. This one is so great. My favorite colors and not too girly for the man of the house. I am in love with the napkins and mats and I wish my everyday china was so pretty. Enjoy a great weekend with your family. Ginger:)

  8. I always take a long stay when I see blues. Love the yellow and blue combination. The spider mums are the icing on the cake. I didn't even notice that there weren't napkins at each place. Last week, someone had the flatware on the wrong side of the plate. That stands out to me because Mother taught me very early how to set a table.

  9. Blue and yellow is one of my favorite table combinations. I love it. I didn't see the napkins either until you pointed it out. (I'm prone to taking picture after picture with mistakes. That's why I end up with crooked candles)

I love the way those mums look in the individual blue vases. That's just lovely to me.

  12. I love the "oops" picture! I have so many of those. Generally I just let them go once I see it as I am all done with the photographs. Too funny. Those blue bottles are so striking. Blue and yellow are just fabulous together. How nice that you could have dinner together early.

  22. Your centerpiece is just beautiful and very appropriate for Father's Day. When you have such pretty placemats and lovely dishes you don't want to detract from them with something over the top. What you've done is just perfect. Those bottles are wonderful, and I love the striking contrast between the cobalt blue and brilliant yellow.

  25. Tricia, what a fresh and COOL tablescape for those hot Texas days y'all have surely been having. Your placemats definitely look like Dad -- I'm sure I've seen that shirt somewhere! We'll be setting the table with steak knives here in Tennessee, too. Once a Texan, always a Texan -- thank goodness! :-)
