Birthday Dinner

This time of year is always busy for our family, as my husband, our daughter, and I all celebrate our birthdays.within one week. When our son, who was born in February, was little he asked plaintively, "How come MY birthday is the only one that's not NOW??"

The inspiration for this week's table came from one of my sisters, who sent me a set of beautiful "jeweled" mercury glass votives -- and some chocolates! -- for my birthday.

I decided the votives called for a "dressy" table, so I chose to use my wedding china, crystal, and silver.  The first time I used them for Tablescape Thursday,  I asked my visitors to suggest other colors to try with my Lenox Windsong china and got several good ideas.  Ellen, who blogs at Scribbler Unfocused, suggested gray or charcoal, so I began to look for some table linens in those colors.  Here I'm using the same charcoal herringbone runner and gray napkins I used with my mother's Castleton Mayfair two weeks ago.

I had three mercury glass hurricanes that coordinated with the new votives, so I used those to hold creamy hydrangea blossoms (thank you, HEB!).

To complete the centerpiece, I added some candles in my candlesticks.

Here's a closer look, in which the herringbone pattern of the runner can be seen more clearly.

Here's a closer look at my silver, Lunt Belvedere --.

and my crystal, Lenox Moonspun.

A few more table views. . .

And now some views with the candles lit . . .

And, finally, one of the pretty votives from my sister.  Thank you, Leigh Ann!

Thank you for visiting my table this week!  I hope you will leave a comment before you leave to visit all the wonderful tablescapes at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch!

  1. Oh my goodness. That's all I can say! At the risk of repeating myself, I have to say this is just gorgeous! I LOVE that charcoal color with the mercury glass. What a striking combination! That color looks similar to the Minton bone china I have, which was hard for me to coordinate. This runner is just fabulous as well as your beautiful china and crystal. Fabulous as always!!

  12. Tricia, this is such a lovely table. Your fine china, flatware and stemware are so lovely, and I love the candles your sister sent as well as the mercury glass vases. I also like the grey runners as a backdrop for the settings. Looks like a lovely evening in a beautiful setting, perfect to celebrate your month of birthdays. Speaking of which, hope yours is/was a happy one!

  13. So glad my suggestion worked out! (I would have been rather mortified if it hadn't!) It really does have a very sophisticated New York penthouse look with the charcoal. I may have to try that with my old Lenox -- it is so drab on it's own. The hydrangeas are perfect! White and charcoal really complement your china and all the other lovely things.

  17. This was the china I wanted when I got married, but no one would have given me any so I didnt register. It is fun to see it again. The votive is just gorgeous. I have some of those and they are like little jewels and how fun that she filled it with chocolate! Hope you guys had great birthdays.

  18. The votives holders will come into play in so many different vignettes. I could see them for a Christmas tablescape that features a pretty light blue, white and silver and features a snowflake motif. Isn't Mercury glass just the best! Your tablescape is beautiful...I think that your sister had your lovely china in mind when she chose your gift. Thank you for sharing your charming elegant design. Cherry Kay
