Thinking Green

I wanted to join the fifth annual St. Patrick's Day Blog Crawl at Cuisine Kathleen this year, so I started by pulling out my vintage green glassware.  The water glasses originally belonged to my husband's grandparents, and for Christmas this year, my mother surprised me with the little "liquor cocktails" to match.  The pattern is by Anchor Hocking and is called either "Burple" or "Inspiration."  I love the deep emerald green.

For last year's St. Patrick's Day table I used the same glasses with my grandmother's wedding china, so I wanted to do something different this year.  I remembered some Williams-Sonoma salad plates with a green and gold pattern, so pulled those out.  I layered them on top of a plain white dinner plate and a larger gold ceramic plate.  I used plain white placemats and white napkins with a simple cutwork design and added our silver flatware.

For a little more green, I added a gold-trimmed green glass piece from my in-laws' collection.

For flowers, I found two small pots of yellow kalanchoes at HEB and decided they could be "pots of gold."  They were just starting to bloom in this photo.

As the week went on, the kalanchoes opened up a bit more.

No shamrocks, leprechauns, or other traditional St. Patrick's Day elements on this table, but I hope all the green plus the pots of gold will qualify it for Kathleen's party!  Thank you for visiting my table this week!

Bring on the Daffodils!

Who's tired of wintry weather? Hands? I thought so. We Central Texans have had to wear COATS lately.  Yes, they are Texas coats that wouldn't protect us from, say, a Chicago winter, but most years, we only have to pull them out a few times.  This year, they're getting a workout.

While at Home Depot over the weekend, I spotted these miniature daffodils in pots and couldn't resist the hint of spring they offered.  Of course, I had to set a table to show them off.

Yellow and green was the obvious color scheme, so I pulled out green placemats and linen-look napkins with a green blanket-stitched edging, then added a green and yellow salad plate (Williams-Sonoma, two years ago) and a yellow appetizer plate that was a gift from my daughter.  A green water glass and our wedding silver complete the placesetting.

The daffodils were soaking up the late afternoon sun in the dining room after several overcast days.

When daffodils appear, can spring be far behind?  Come on, Mother Nature!

Primary Colors

The inspiration for my table this week was this tablecloth I found on clearance at the Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma Outlet in San Marcos last weekend.  I could spend hours in that store!  I love the border print, and the yellow goes nicely in my yellow breakfast area.

I wanted to bring out the little bit of red in the border print, so I asked my husband to bring home some red flowers from the grocery store.  (He does all the grocery shopping and cooking.  And, yes, I am spoiled!)  He came home with these red Gerberas, which were perfect for the little bottles in a holder that I got for Mother's Day.  It's from the NapaStyle catalog, if you're interested.

Since the table was for a Sunday night supper, I set it with our everyday dishes, stainless, and stemware.

So I added some of my Le Creuset covered ramekins.  They really pull out the blue print of the tablecloth.

I love these cheery flowers!
