We had a busy weekend, so I hadn't found time to plan a table for this week's Tablescape Thursday at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch. I had decided I'd just have to skip playing this week. BUT! Monday afternoon when I got in from work, I found a package on the front porch! The Tablescape Fairy -- AKA my sweet baby sister in Nashville -- had sent me some inspiration! She included four brown woven raffia placemats and four red napkins, as well as four darling felt bird napkin rings -- all from a wonderful store in Nashville called Color. If you're ever in Nashville, you must visit -- they serve mimosas and hot tea to shoppers -- and the merchandise is glorious. You can also get on their email list! (Edited to say my sister wrote to say the birds are from World Market!)
Here's a closeup of one of the sweet little birds. He'll be perfect for Christmas, too!
Here's a bird's eye view (pun intended) of the placesetting. Aren't these interesting placemats? I thought they might not show up on the dark wood of the table, but I think they hold their own.
Along with plain white plates and my sterling flatware, I used my red goblets. In the background you can see that I'm "recycling" the coffee-beans-and-candle-in-a-hurricane I used in my table two weeks ago. The brown from the coffee beans added more brown and more texture to the table, and they still smell wonderful!
Here's a diner's view across the table.
Here's another view. I like the simple but unusual -- at least for me -- color scheme of red and brown. I think it works for a modern take on a Valentine's Day table.
Just love these little birds!
Sisters are the best! I hope YOUR tablescape fairy will surprise YOU very soon! Thanks for visiting!

The red & brown are a wonderfully fresh take on Valentine's Day! Love it! Aren't sisters nice...sometimes? ;-) (I'm a "baby sister", too, so the "sometimes" is probably an overstatement on my part!) Your napkin fold is really cool, Tricia! It reminds me of a bird in flight, which is perfect for this table. I could also immediately fall in love with any store that serves mimosas! I am always inclined to buy more when hammered! :-)
ReplyDeleteTricia, The red and brown combination is really nice. The little birds are darling, and I really like the placemats. They look like they'd be so versatile. Glad you're coffee beans still smell nice. Ours does too. :) Colors sound like a great place to shop...mimosas..whoo hoo!

I want a tablescape fairy! I really love the red and brown together, and I agree with you that it looks perfect against the wood of the table. Those red birds are adorable. I love anything that adds height to a place setting and is unusual at the same time. I was going to say that the whole napkin complete with bird and fold looks like a bird flying, and then I saw that Alycia said the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI love tablescape faeries (sisters) that are always looking for unusual things! I really like red and brown together, very pretty table, Tricia. The napkin rings are so cute.
ReplyDeleteTricia, I do love the brown and the red together -- so rich. Of course, I love anything red, but I do not love red on me. I love the placemats. I do have a sister like yours (Jacqueline at Purple Chocolat home) that gifts me with tablescaping things. Joni
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have a package arrive on your doorstep from the tablescape fairy! I love those sweet red birds! ♥

Sisters are the best and give the greatest presents since they usually know us the best. I used similiar placemats in a light color this week. Nice combination of the red and brown, like roses and chocolates!

Tricia, red and brown would be the combination from my favorite chocolates - raspberry creams or cordials either from Sees, Godivas or Ethel M's so it is perfect for Valentine's. What a lovely fairy you know! She sent you the cutest fairy gifts. So glad you got them for this wonderful table.

Add me to the list of those hooked on Downton Abbey, too. I just learned you can watch all the episodes of Season 1 & 2 on youtube! I missed several & can't wait to catch up.
