Sunday Lunch

Today's tablescape was inspired by these yellow spray roses. My flower source is generally HEB, the famed Texas grocery store chain, where flowers are $4 a bunch, and my husband is usually the one who brings them home.  He does all the grocery shopping (and cooking -- yes, I'm completely spoiled), so when he asks me what I want to add to the list, I often ask for flowers.  I asked for yellow tulips this week, but they didn't have any, so he improvised.  The little blue pitcher used to be in my mother-in-law's kitchen, and it was the perfect size for this mini-bouquet.

The bright yellow of the roses seemed to dictate using similarly bright placemats. The placesetting also includes some cute little heart-shaped covered ramekins, our everyday dishes and glasses and flatware, and blue-checked napkins.

Here's a view of the table, looking toward the living room.  Very simple -- set for Sunday lunch.  Since the pitcher was so small, I elevated it with a wooden candlestand and added some yellow votive holders.

Here's a closer look at the very bright, colorful pattern of the dishes.  I chose this Mikasa pattern after using our first set of everyday dishes for 25 years.  These dishes are still going strong after 13 years!
When I chose this pattern, I was looking for one featuring blue, but I also love the bright fruit pattern.

Here's a view from the opposite side of the table, showing the baker's rack newly decorated with blue and white.

The details:
Dishes:  Mikasa Windsor Park (discontinued)
Glassware:  Villeroy & Boch My Garden
Flatware:  Towle Beaded Antique
Covered ramekins:  Le Creuset outlet
Votive holders:  Sur la Table
Wooden candleholder:  Pottery Barn outlet

Thank you for visiting my table this week!  I hope you will leave a comment before you leave to visit all the wonderful tablescapes at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch!

  4. Hey, Tricia! What an incredible bargain on the flowers!!! When they sing about the Yellow Rose of Texas, I suppose they mean those beauties on your table. Very, very pretty! I'm bowled over that you can get such pretty flowers for such a great price! I think the lowest thing going here (besides wholesale) is probably $8.99 at Costco. Lucky girl! And your hubby does the grocery shopping AND cooking??!?!! You'd better bottle him up whatever's in his DNA and sell that! You'll make a fortune!!!!!! Also, I don't know if I've mentioned it before or not, but I love the shape of your chairs. They're have a kind of sexy, sultry look to them. Have a great week!

  9. Hi Tricia...

This is so pretty. I love yellow and blue together. Your ramekins are adorable and I love the shape of your pretty blue glasses. Such a lovely table. Your hubby made a great floral decision. My husband does our grocery shopping and if there were no yellow tulips, he'd be on the phone asking what he should buy!!

My friend, what a lovely table you have created! It's so bright and cheery and just makes me smile! That Mikasa china pattern is just gorgeous...like you, I love the blue and yellow with the pops of orange brought in through the fruit! The yellow roses that your husband brought to you are sooo sweet and they look fabulous in the blue pitcher! 26. Great to see you this week! I am late making the tablescape rounds this time. I think a lot of us had blue and yellow on the brain this week! You asked about the wall color in my kitchen, and I wish I could tell you. The previous owner did it, and one reason I agreed to buy the house is that most of the colors worked with what I had. She also had the French country thing going on, and since I didn't plan to be here long, I thought I could work with some of it. It is a mustard/gold/Provencal yellow -- that's about the best I can tell you. I do plan to lighten it up, although it will probably still be yellowish.

  27. Tricia, you do have the "blues" today, and they do add a brightness to the day, much like the sky over Houston today. It's a lovely table, one that I would enjoy sitting around.
